Best Schengen Calculator Apps 2026: Free, iPhone and Android

Most "best Schengen calculator" lists recommend the same handful of apps and never say how many people use them, or what they cost once the free trial ends. We checked both.

Every figure here comes from Apple's own App Store records for the US and UK, and from Google Play, pulled on 25 September 2026. The UK numbers matter most. British travellers are the main audience for these apps, and the big apps have seven to twenty times as many UK ratings as US ones.

Disclosure: we make NomadPoint, which is one of the options below. It is not first, because it is not a dedicated calculator. If a Schengen day count is all you want, several apps here do that job better, and we name them.

What is the best free Schengen calculator app?

The best genuinely free app is Schengen Calculator by qrallapps. The core calculator costs nothing on iPhone or Android, it counts past and planned trips together, and on Google Play it has more reviews than any other Schengen app. The free version shows ads, and Pro removes them.

That may surprise you, because the best known apps are free only to download. After you install them:

• Schengen Simple gives you a one-week free trial, then asks for an annual subscription.
• Schengen Calculator 90/180 (Vitaliy Golubenko) gives you 7 days, then needs a subscription for full use.
• 180 Days: Schengen Calculator is free to try, then unlocks with a one-off lifetime purchase.
• Country Days Tracker: Bounded has a free trial, then needs a subscription for GPS tracking and saved history.

If you want to pay nothing and don't need an app, two web calculators are free: the European Commission's official calculator and our free Schengen calculator, which also shows the longest stay you can take from any date and the day your next Schengen day comes back.

Which Schengen apps rank highest, and how many people use them?

These are the apps in the current App Store top 10 for "schengen calculator" and "schengen", plus the free web tools. Ratings counts are the best public signal Apple gives of how many people really use an app.

A few more apps sit in the US top 10 with 2 to 4 ratings each, including DaysLeft, Schengen Calculator - Entorii and several new apps all called some version of "Schengen Calculator 90/180". Awesome Schengen (13 US, 69 UK ratings) still ranks but has not been updated since 2019. 90 Days in Schengen Calculator costs £2.99 up front, with 60 UK ratings. None has enough users yet to recommend over the apps above.

What is the best Schengen calculator app for iPhone?

For most people it is Schengen Simple. It has the best reviews among the big apps (4.8 from 2,518 UK ratings), tracks several travellers in one account, and answers a question the others skip: how long can I stay from this date without spoiling a trip I have already planned? The cost is an annual subscription after a one-week trial.

Pick something else if:

• If you won't subscribe, 180 Days has the highest average rating in the category (4.9 in the US) and unlocks for life with one purchase. It shows days used and days left for every trip, and warns you about an overstay or two trips that overlap.
• If you want to pay nothing, Schengen Calculator by qrallapps does the core job for free, with ads.
• If you want the app most UK travellers already use, Schengen Calculator 90/180 has 3,822 UK ratings and has been on the App Store since 2015. It needs a subscription now, after a 7-day trial.

What is the best Schengen calculator app for Android?

The best on Android is Schengen 90/180 Calculator by qrallapps, the same app as the free iPhone one. It has 704 Google Play reviews at 4.7, more than any other Schengen calculator on Play, and the core features are free with ads. If you prefer Schengen Simple's future planning, it has an Android version too (88 reviews, 4.7).

Two other Android apps are worth a look:

• Schengen Calculator by Vitaliy Golubenko is the Android version of the UK's most used iPhone app. 274 reviews at 4.5, subscription after a trial.
• Schengen Calculator for 90/180 by Botolab is the top Play Store result for "schengen calculator" in the UK. 113 reviews at 4.7, and the core calculator works fully offline.

180 Days is iPhone and iPad only. So is the NomadPoint app for now, though its web version works in any phone browser.

Is the EU's official calculator enough?

For a one-off check, yes. The European Commission's short-stay calculator is free, needs no account, and is the official method the apps copy. It stops there: it saves nothing, sends no reminders, and gives a new answer every day as the 180-day window moves, so you have to enter your dates again each time.

That is fine if you travel to Europe once or twice a year. It gets tedious fast if you go often, have a second home in Spain or France, or are planning several trips ahead and want to know which one breaks the rule.

Our free Schengen calculator uses the same counting method and adds the two answers people usually want next: the longest stay you can start on a chosen date, and the next date a day comes back to you. It runs in your browser and your dates stay on your device. Like the EU tool, it does not save trips between visits, so if you want that, use one of the apps above.

How does the 90/180 rule work for UK travellers after Brexit?

Since 1 January 2021, UK passport holders count as non-EU visitors. You can spend up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period across the whole Schengen Area, with no visa, for holidays, visiting family or short business trips. You cannot work there on that allowance, and days in every Schengen country come out of the same 90.

Three things catch British travellers out.

• Spain, France and Portugal share one allowance. There is no separate "90 day rule for Spain". 40 days in Spain and 50 in France use up all 90.
• Ireland and Cyprus don't count. They are in the EU but not in Schengen, and the UK is in neither. Days there are free. Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia are full Schengen members and do count.
• Stamps are being replaced by a digital record. The EU's Entry/Exit System (EES) now logs every Schengen crossing with your fingerprints and a photo, so an overstay is picked up automatically at the border. ETIAS, a pre-travel authorisation for visa-free visitors, is due to follow. Check the EU's ETIAS site before you book.

To stay longer than 90 days, you need a national long-stay visa or residence permit from one country, such as Spain's non-lucrative or digital nomad visa. Time spent on that visa in the country that issued it does not come out of your 90 days.

How do you count Schengen days correctly?

Whichever tool you pick should get these three rules right:

• The window moves every day. It is the 180 days ending on the day being checked, counting that day. It does not reset on 1 January or when you leave.
• Entry and exit days both count as full days. 1 May to 10 May is 10 days, not 9. This is the most common mistake in hand counts.
• It covers all 29 countries together. Crossing from one Schengen country to another is not a new entry.

Do the days I spend in Ireland, Cyprus or the UK count?

No. Ireland and Cyprus are EU members outside the Schengen Area, and the UK is in neither. Days in Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia do count, because they are full Schengen members.

Does the 90/180 count reset when I leave Europe?

No. The count always looks back over the last 180 days from the date you are checking. Days only come back as old ones drop out of that window, which is why the date you plan to return matters as much as the date you leave.

Can one app track Schengen days for my whole family?

Yes. Schengen Simple and qrallapps both support several travellers, each with their own calendar and count. NomadPoint does the same inside a shared itinerary, using each person's own passport.

Are Schengen calculator apps accurate enough to rely on at the border?

The well-used ones follow the EU's official method, and Schengen Simple says it tests its results against the EU calculator. But the border officer's count, now taken from the EES record, is the one that decides. Use an app so that count never surprises you, and keep your booking records.

Will ETIAS change the 90/180 rule?

No. ETIAS is a pre-travel authorisation for visa-free visitors, including UK passport holders. It adds a step before you travel but leaves the 90 days in 180 allowance as it is.
