Best Apps for Digital Nomads 2026, Tested by Category
The apps digital nomads use for planning, visa days, flights, eSIM, banking, stays and taxes, with live ratings and who each one suits.

Most lists of digital nomad apps are thirty logos with a sentence each. You install half of them, open two, and still keep your visa days in a notes file.
This list is shorter. It goes one job at a time: planning, visas and day counts, flights, mobile data, money, somewhere to sleep and work, and taxes. For each job we name the app we would install first and one or two alternatives, and we give the number of people who have rated each one, because that number is public and most roundups skip it.
Every App Store figure below comes from Apple's public US storefront, pulled on 25 September 2026. Legal and tax points link to the government source.
Disclosure: we make NomadPoint, which appears in two categories here. It has 3 US ratings, fewer than anything else on this list. We have said where it fits and where something else is better.
What are the best apps for digital nomads?
A working setup is six apps: a planner, a visa day counter, a flight tracker, an eSIM app, a multi-currency account and a stays app. Wanderlog or NomadPoint for planning, Schengen Simple or NomadPoint for days, Flighty, Airalo, Wise and Airbnb cover the rest for most people. Taxes need a record, not an app.
| Job | First pick | US ratings | Avg | Also consider |
|---|---|---|---|---|

| Tax day records | Domicile365 | 231 | 4.8 | TaxBird (241, 4.0 avg) |
Averages are rounded to one decimal.
What is the best app for planning travel as a digital nomad?
Wanderlog, if you plan by place and share plans with other people. It has 35,445 US ratings at 4.9, runs on iPhone, Android and the web, and is free. If you mainly need bookings filed, TripIt is the most proven. If the plan crosses several visa regimes, NomadPoint ties the itinerary to them.
The difference between them is what each app thinks a trip is. Wanderlog is built around places on a map and the order you visit them. TripIt is built around confirmation emails, and it is the best parser there is: forwarding to it is free. Neither tracks how long you are allowed to stay anywhere, which matters more the longer you travel. We went through all of them in our travel planning apps roundup, and if you are moving off one, see TripIt alternatives or Wanderlog alternatives.
What is the best app for tracking visa days as a nomad?
For Schengen alone, Schengen Simple: 356 US ratings at 4.8, and it answers the question most calculators skip, which is how long a trip can be when you have others booked on either side. If you need entry rules for many countries, and the count to update when your flights change, NomadPoint does that from the itinerary.
The Schengen rule is the one that catches most nomads, because it is 90 days in any rolling 180 across 29 countries at once, not 90 per country. The European Commission's own short-stay calculator is the official reference. We also run a free Schengen calculator in the browser, and compared every iOS option in the best Schengen calculator apps.
Where NomadPoint differs is that you never enter the dates twice. Your stays and flights are the input, so the entry requirements, day counts and passport validity warnings for the passport you hold recompute when the plan changes. Two people on the same trip with different passports each see their own answer. The limits: it is iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch only, and it is new. Visa rules, Schengen counting and the passport check are free; visa expiry alerts and a second passport are in Pro, $29.99 a year in the US.
What is the best flight app for digital nomads?
Flighty for tracking a flight you have booked, and Skyscanner for finding one. Flighty has 153,489 US ratings at 4.8 and shows inbound aircraft and delays, often before the airline does. Tracking is free and alerts need Flighty Pro. Skyscanner, with 499,368 ratings, compares airlines and booking sites in one search.
Flighty Pro is $59.99 a year according to Flighty's pricing page. Flightradar24, with 662,292 ratings, is the better choice if you want to see every plane in the sky rather than your own. Kiwi.com, 36,875 ratings at 4.6, searches flights, trains and buses together and says it finds low-cost routes other sites do not show. Read the conditions of the Kiwi.com Guarantee before booking a route with a tight connection.
What is the best eSIM app for digital nomads?
Airalo is the biggest: 101,041 US ratings at 4.6, and plans in more than 200 destinations. Holafly has a higher average, 4.8 across 38,547 ratings, and is known for unlimited-data plans. Nomad eSIM and Saily are both well rated with smaller user bases. Which one is cheapest changes by country, so compare for each destination.
| eSIM app | US ratings | Avg | What its App Store listing leads with |
|---|---|---|---|
| Airalo | 101,041 | 4.6 | Largest eSIM marketplace, 200+ destinations |
| Holafly | 38,547 | 4.8 | Unlimited data plans |
| Nomad eSIM | 16,599 | 4.8 | Regional and country plans, 200+ destinations |
| Saily | 12,754 | 4.7 | Prepaid data in 200+ destinations, from NordVPN's company |
| Ubigi | 10,633 | 4.6 | Travel data from Transatel |
Your phone must be unlocked and support eSIM. On a long stay, price a local SIM against these before you top up a travel eSIM for the third time. Travel eSIMs are most useful for the first days in a country and for short stops.
What is the best banking app for digital nomads?
Wise, for most people. It has 110,735 US ratings at 4.6, holds and converts dozens of currencies at the mid-market rate, and sends money to more than 70 countries. Revolut, 72,765 ratings at 4.7, is the usual second account. What you can open depends on where you legally live, not where you are.
Wise's own listing says it plainly: "Products available depend on where you live." Check each app's site for your country before you rely on it. Keep a card from a second provider in a different bag. One frozen account, a lost card or a failed verification abroad is a much smaller problem when there is a backup.
What are the best apps for finding accommodation and coworking?
Airbnb for monthly stays, with 702,811 US ratings at 4.8. Booking.com, with over two million ratings, is better for short stops and hotels. Hostelworld leads for hostels. For coworking there is no dominant nomad app, so WeWork day passes and a Google Maps search usually do the job.
A few specifics worth knowing. Furnished Finder, 30,348 ratings, is for furnished monthly rentals across the US only, and its listing says there are no booking fees. Blueground, 4,142 ratings, rents furnished apartments for a month or longer, but its app is for people already living in one: booking happens on its website. Hostelworld, 78,297 ratings at 4.9, lists more than 21,000 hostels in 187 countries according to its listing, and hostels are often where a co-working corner and a community already exist.
On coworking, WeWork's app (7,438 ratings, 4.8) books desks and private offices by the day where it operates. Outside the big cities, the most reliable method we know is searching Google Maps for "coworking" and reading the most recent reviews for comments about internet speed.
What is the best app for digital nomad taxes?
No app can tell you where you owe tax. That depends on your citizenship, residence and the law of each country. What an app can do is keep a day-by-day record of where you were, which is the evidence most residence tests rely on. Domicile365 (231 ratings, 4.8) and TaxBird (241 ratings, 4.0) do that.
Two examples of why the record matters. The US physical presence test for the foreign earned income exclusion requires being "physically present in a foreign country or countries 330 full days during any period of 12 consecutive months," and a full day is 24 hours from midnight to midnight (IRS). In the UK you can be automatically resident if "you spent 183 or more days in the UK in the tax year" (GOV.UK), though the full statutory residence test has more parts than that one line.
The 183-day figure in particular is often repeated as a universal rule. It is not. Each country sets its own test, and many look at your home, family and work as well as days. Keep the record, and take it to an accountant who knows your home country.
For US freelancers, Keeper (12,784 ratings at 4.8) combines software with human accountants to track deductions and prepare US returns. It does not handle other countries' taxes.
Which apps can you skip?
You do not need a separate packing app, currency converter or time zone app: your phone's built-in tools cover those. You probably do not need a nomad social app either, although Nomadtable (20,598 ratings at 4.7) is popular for meeting people in a new city. Install things when a problem appears, not before the trip.
Frequently asked questions
What apps do digital nomads use most?
By US rating counts, Google Maps, Booking.com, Airbnb, Flightradar24 and Skyscanner are the most used general travel apps. Among tools nomads add on top, Wise, Airalo and Revolut have the most ratings. Dedicated visa trackers are much smaller: the best-known Schengen app, Schengen Simple, has 356 ratings.
Is there one app that does everything for digital nomads?
No. The closest you get is combining the itinerary with the visa position, which is what NomadPoint does, but it does not book flights, sell data or hold money. Plan on around six apps.
What is the best free app for digital nomads?
Wanderlog for planning, the European Commission's calculator or our free Schengen calculator for Schengen days, and Flighty for tracking flights are all free for their core jobs. NomadPoint's visa rules, Schengen counting and flight alerts are free on Apple devices.
Do I need an eSIM as a digital nomad?
Not always, but it helps on arrival. A travel eSIM gets you online as soon as you land, without finding a SIM shop. For stays of more than a couple of weeks, compare its price with a local SIM.
How do digital nomads keep track of tax residency days?
With a day-by-day location record, from an app like Domicile365 or TaxBird or from your own travel history. The record is evidence. Whether you are tax resident somewhere depends on that country's rules, such as the UK's statutory residence test or the US physical presence test.
App Store figures pulled from Apple's public US storefront on 25 September 2026. Ratings do not aggregate across country storefronts, so figures may differ in your region. Prices are US prices and can change.
