TripIt vs Flighty: Which One Do You Need in 2026?
TripIt organizes the whole trip from your emails; Flighty tracks the flight itself. What each does free, what Pro adds, prices, and when to use both.

TripIt and Flighty get compared all the time, but they do different jobs. TripIt is an itinerary app: you forward booking emails and it builds one plan with your flights, hotels, cars and dinner reservations. Flighty is a flight tracker: it follows each flight closely, using live data, and tells you about delays, gate changes and the inbound plane.
The short answer:
- If you want every booking in one place, pick TripIt. Its free plan already does that.
- If you fly often and care most about the flight itself, pick Flighty. Its Pro alerts are the reason people pay for it.
- Plenty of frequent flyers run both: TripIt for the trip, Flighty for the flight. Flighty Pro can even import your trips from TripIt.
- If you'd rather have one app that holds the trip and watches the flight, look at NomadPoint (we make it, details below).
Every price and feature below comes from each company's own pricing and help pages, checked on 6 November 2026.
What each app does for free
TripIt free
TripIt's free plan is built around one trick: forward your confirmation emails to plans@tripit.com, or let Inbox Sync find them, and TripIt turns them into a single itinerary. Its pricing page lists what the free plan includes:
- An itinerary across devices, built from your inbox
- Calendar sync and sharing plans with others
- Transport options, places near your hotel, neighborhood safety scores and airport maps
- Flight compensation eligibility (through AirHelp), carbon footprint and travel stats
- 3 uploaded documents per trip
What it doesn't include is anything live. Real-time flight alerts are Pro only.
Flighty free
Flighty works the other way round. According to its help page on Pro, the free version has unlimited flight tracking on what it calls "live pilot-grade data", live flight sharing, Flighty Passport (your flight history), Flighty Friends, the Apple Watch app and widgets, and importing past flights from the last 365 days. It has no ads.
What it doesn't do is plan anything other than flights. There's no hotel, train or restaurant in Flighty. And the free plan has no push alerts or Live Activities, so you check the app or a widget to see the status.

TripIt Pro is $49 a year with a 30-day free trial. It adds real-time flight alerts, terminal and gate reminders, a check-in reminder 24 hours before the flight, a "Go Now" nudge to leave for the airport, risk alerts for disruptions, alternate flights, fare refund and better-seat tracking, reward program tracking, walking directions to your connecting gate, baggage claim info, a passport renewal reminder and 25 documents per trip.
Flighty Pro is $4.99 a month or $59.99 billed annually on its pricing page, which also lists weekly, lifetime and family options. It adds push alerts and Live Activities, alerts that Flighty says arrive before the airline's, delay and gate predictions, Where's My Plane, late plane alerts, Connection Assistant, airport delay trends, live weather delays, decoded NOTAMs, calendar sync, and email and TripIt import.
How they differ in practice
The biggest difference shows up when you open each app the night before you leave.
TripIt shows the trip: the flight, the hotel confirmation number, the car pickup, the dinner on day two. If the flight is delayed and you're on the free plan, TripIt won't tell you. On Pro, it alerts you, and its "Go Now" reminder tells you when to leave for the airport.
Flighty shows the flight, in far more detail than TripIt does. Flighty Pro's selling point is speed. It watches the aircraft that's flying in to operate your flight and the airport's operations, then warns you before the airline does. It doesn't know where you're sleeping that night.
That's why "both" is a common answer. You keep TripIt for the plan and Flighty for the flight, and since Flighty Pro imports from TripIt, you only forward each booking once. It also means paying for two subscriptions: $49 plus $59.99, or $108.99 a year at the US prices above.
Which one should you pick?
Pick TripIt if your trips have several moving parts (flights, hotels, rental cars, trains) and you want them built automatically from your inbox. The free plan is enough for most people. Pay for Pro once you want flight alerts, check-in reminders or fare tracking. It's also the only one of the two on Android.
Pick Flighty if you fly a lot, connections matter to you, and you want to know about a delay before the gate agent announces it. Try Pro on your first flight, since it's free there, and decide after. On the free plan, Flighty is a very good flight status app without notifications.
Use both if you fly often enough to care about Flighty's predictions and also want TripIt holding everything else.
A third option: one app for the trip and the flight
NomadPoint, the app we make, tries to cover both jobs. It's a travel planner for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch that keeps flights, stays and activities in one journey and shows what's next, for example the train after landing and then check-in at the apartment.
Here's what it shares with each app, and where it falls short:
- Like TripIt, you can forward booking emails to build the journey, for free. You can also import from your iPhone calendar, TripIt, Flighty, Tripsy and Google Maps lists.
- Like Flighty Pro, NomadPoint Pro sends flight delay, gate and cancellation alerts and puts the flight in a Live Activity on travel days. It does not have Flighty's delay predictions, inbound aircraft tracking or airport data, and it has no fare or seat tracking like TripIt Pro.
- It also checks the visa and entry rules for your passport at every stop, and counts Schengen 90/180 days, which neither TripIt nor Flighty does.
- It has no Android app.
The planner and the visa rules are free. NomadPoint Pro is $47.99 a year or $7.99 a month in the US (see pricing) and adds the flight alerts, the travel-day Live Activity and alerts before a visa or stay allowance runs out.
If you're leaving one of the two, we have side-by-side pages for Flighty alternatives and TripIt alternatives, plus direct comparisons of NomadPoint vs TripIt and NomadPoint vs Flighty. Frequently asked questions
Is TripIt or Flighty better?
They're better at different things. TripIt is better for organizing a whole trip from booking emails, and its free plan does that. Flighty is better for tracking a flight, with faster alerts, delay predictions and inbound aircraft tracking in Flighty Pro.
Can Flighty import from TripIt?
Yes. Flighty lists email and TripIt import as a Pro feature, alongside calendar sync, so you need Flighty Pro (or your free first flight) to use it.
Is TripIt Pro worth it compared to Flighty Pro?
TripIt Pro ($49 a year) is worth it if you want alerts plus check-in reminders, fare refund tracking and seat tracking across a trip with hotels and cars. Flighty Pro ($59.99 a year) is worth it if the flight itself is what you worry about, since its predictions and Where's My Plane go further than TripIt's flight status.
Does Flighty work on Android?
No. Flighty's help center says it's available on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple Vision, with no current plans for Android. TripIt has an Android app.
Is there one app that does both?
NomadPoint holds flights, stays and activities in one journey for free, and NomadPoint Pro adds flight delay, gate and cancellation alerts. It doesn't match Flighty's predictions, so if those matter most to you, keep Flighty.
Your trip and your flight in one place. NomadPoint builds the journey from your bookings, watches the flight with Pro, and already knows your next step. Free to download.
